Astrology for September 2021

all dates and times in this article are based on Universal Time (GMT)

Week 1-7 September

We start September 2021 by noting that Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are all moving Retrograde throughout the month. This suggests that we are travelling along a steep learning curve which will force us to confront our reluctance to apply the wisdom and experience gained by humanity over eons of time to the challenges that currently confront us. Our arrogant, stubborn insistence on reinventing the wheel rather than enhancing and improving its efficiency is reversing us into an evolutionary cul-de-sac.

Mercury, planet of communication, is fairly active this week. Currently passing through the sign of Libra, it begins by forming a square to the Moon in Cancer which will probably cause arguments created by defensive actions designed to protect personal interests. Mercury then slips into a series of flowing trines with the North Node & Ceres in Gemini and Saturn in Aquarius. This bodes well for diplomatic relations which draw on the clever use of negotiating skills as well as expertise in the field of foreign affairs and global-scale projects.

In the meantime, action planet Mars in Virgo opposes Neptune in Pisces and trines Pluto in Capricorn. This suggests that, even though the job of bringing order to chaos has a degree of difficulty which is off the Richter scale, we have the necessary skills and strength to confront and complete the task. It is a long-term commitment to hard work, but the potential for achieving a successful and stabilising outcome is in our hands.

Resourceful Venus, whose abilities are enhanced while she travels through Libra, tackles the unpleasant energies of Pluto in Capricorn and Eris in Aries. Backed up by a helpful trine from Jupiter in Aquarius, Venus insists that our future prospects depend on the cessation of all forms of warmongering, exploitation and power abuse. It is time to talk about peace and to prioritise the values of justice, fairness and equality regardless of race, religion, gender, age or social status.

This event encourages an attitude of starting as you mean to go on. An exact trine between the New Moon and Uranus in Taurus enables you to break away from customs and practices that no longer serve their purpose. They are well past their sell-by dates and the duties they impose are dragging you down on a daily basis. It is time to create new schedules, templates and routines which will keep you organised through the week, so that you have time, energy and resources to spare.

Because the Moon moves into an opposition to Neptune in Pisces, you may feel rather unsure about how or whether your new systems will work. Instead of resisting or ignoring the doubt, use it to test and fine-tune your methods. When the Moon travels into a trine to Pluto in Capricorn and arrives at a conjunction with Mars in Virgo you could start to realise just how powerful and effective attention to detail can prove to be. And please do not ignore guidance from your instincts and emotions as they are a vital source of information, as will be clarified when the Full Moon conjuncts Neptune later this month.

Week 8-14 September

As the week opens, Mercury in Libra moves to oppose Chiron in Aries which restates the value of tact and diplomacy when attempting to heal wounds that drive the disagreements which ultimately lead to significant pain and suffering. The ability to listen to advice, to appreciate various points of view and to see other sides of the story is the magic ingredient which initiates the self-healing process and is crucial to the commencement of any cure for dis-ease.

Later in the week the Sun in Virgo will be opposing Neptune in Pisces, highlighting the hard work involved in creating order out of chaos. Practical skills which can be adapted to suit the circumstances are all the more important when you are surrounded by confusion. Try not to allow yourself to be diverted by doubt or overwhelmed by uncertainty. Rely on your daily routine to keep you grounded and on track. Be ready with a couple of back-up plans in case the situation you are working with mutates into another version of itself.

Venus is in close contact with the Moon in Libra before moving into Scorpio. This recognises that while the relationship planet is much happier in an atmosphere of co-operation, she knows that it is difficult to live in a constant state of peace and harmony unless you are prepared to confront uncomfortable truths – both about yourself and your partners.

You can take advantage of Venus travelling through the sign of transformation to regenerate your key relationships. You may have to do some digging as well as a certain amount of soul-searching to determine what might be casting a shadow on your connections with other people. It is very important not to assume the role of scapegoat by blaming yourself for everything that is wrong. Neither should you try to shift all the shame onto someone else. This is not about identifying culprits and forcing them to face their bad behaviour. Venus in Scorpio is urging you to instigate the constructive changes that will intensify and evolve the rapport between you and the people you interact with – whether personally or professionally.

Venus is also the planet of natural resources and when she is in Scorpio, the sign of asset management, she will be testing your ability to appreciate the gifts you were born with. She’ll be questioning the value you place on your talents and abilities. Are you making the most of them? Have you invested your time, energy and passion in them? Do you feel a powerful sense of fulfilment when you engage with them? If the answer to any of these question is “No”, then Venus will want to know why.

Week 15-21 September

Action planet Mars loses some of his sharp-edged focus while he’s passing through the 7th zodiac sign. Libra likes to weigh up the pros and cons of a situation before choosing what to do whereas Mars finds the deliberation process frustrating. But there is a middle ground between pondering and pushing which combines the best of both worlds.

Mars energy can be applied to negotiations to give them goals and targets. Discussions become less abstract and more achievement oriented. Diplomatic relations take on a dynamic quality which provides motivation. There is a higher level of excitement and enthusiasm about aiming for and attaining objectives. Libra persuades impetuous Mars to see why it is better to check that all salient points are settled before surging forward. And Libra, the sign of co-operation and collaboration, entices independent Mars into partnerships which, by sharing forces and resources, offer win-win outcomes to both sides.

The best way to channel this particular planetary placement is by practising the art of decision making. It involves identifying the gaols you are aiming for and comparing them with the options available to you until you arrive at an inner state of agreement from which you can move forward with courage and certainty.

As midweek approaches, the Sun in Virgo forms an earth trine with Pluto in Capricorn and Venus in Scorpio moves into a fixed square with Saturn in Aquarius. Because these influences will tend to reinforce the status quo they could favour those who want to carry on with business as usual. But there is an uneasy undercurrent which warns that refusal to co-operate with the evolutionary energies at work in the world will mean that future changes will be forced upon us, making them more difficult to deal with than had we accepted them earlier on.

If ever there was a Moon to wish upon it has to be this one, thanks to a close conjunction with dreamy Neptune in Pisces – the most visionary of zodiac signs. It’s OK to let your imagination roam free, let loose from concerns about whether you’re being too impractical or overly idealistic. Although the full moon marks a culmination phase rather than a time to start afresh, you can still bring new inspiration to your ongoing projects – especially if they seem to have lost something of their initial magic.

If you are into spiritual practices, this full moon influence will enhance your efforts to manifest benevolent energies from the higher realms in 3D reality here on Planet Earth. Perhaps you have been working to channel universal light and love so that it may flow to all those who need it most. It may be that you have been feeling rather disappointed at how much misery there appears to be in the world around you. Please do not give up on your vision of a future filled with joy and loving kindness. Just keep seeing those skies filled with pink clouds and rainbows!

But a word of warning: this Full Moon could bring a slippery slope which cascades into chaos to those who have been weaving webs of deceit in order to fulfil their own illicit fantasies. The fruits of their dishonest dealings are about to be harvested and unfortunately for them, the results are revealed to be rotten to the core.

Following in the footsteps of this week’s two major events, Mercury in Libra will trine Jupiter in Aquarius which should be helpful if you are thinking about how the choices you make now might affect your future. It is a good time to put proposals forward because there is much to learn about the best ways of communicating your more avant garde ideas to others.

An interesting push-pull energy emerges when the Moon in Aries trines South Node in Sagittarius and opposes Mars in Libra which trines North Node in Gemini. Even though our primitive instincts encourage us to act in honour of the maxim that only the fittest should survive, we answer to a stronger urge – that of providing support and protection to our fellow travellers along life’s path.

Week 22-27 September

By now the Moon has moved into Aries to honour its monthly meet up with Chiron and to reinforce the self-healing potential of this energy. At the same time, Mercury in Libra is squaring Pluto in Capricorn and opposing Eris in Aries. While I firmly believe in the concept of curing your own ills I know from personal experience that it’s about the most difficult thing a person can try to do. It is a process which involves going to war with your inner demons weighed down by the fear that you will be fighting a losing battle! But this is a campaign which is always worth embarking upon and the effort you invest in it is never wasted.

We have reached an important pivot point in the unfolding story of 2021. In spite of the seemingly unprecedented ups and downs and the pendulum swings between extremes of despair and hope, we are still managing to steer a reasonably even course through these turbulent times. While some have experienced the changes as very unsettling others have found that the new era offers them a better balance of work and leisure.

Hopefully you have created a lifestyle which is best suited to your particular tastes and talents. Ideally it will enable you to have just enough of everything you need to feel physically contented and creatively fulfilled. Once you have reached this harmonious state of being you will no longer seek satisfaction from the wrong sources. You won’t strive to win goals which are irrelevant to you or incapable of bringing you happiness. You will be drawn towards people who share your interests and values and towards situations which offer you pleasure and enjoyment.

On 26 September the Sun will form a favourable trine with North Node in Gemini, confirming that there are rewards to be gained from making simple moves to support your quest for self-fulfilment. Grandiose gestures are not required, just keep walking forward and give yourself a gold star for every step you take!

The Astrological Sign of Libra begins at the Equinox – Spring in the Southern Hemisphere and Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. The Equinoxes are when sunrise and sunset create days and nights of equal length on both sides of the planet, which is a symbol for harmony between the forces of light and dark, when their energies compliment one another rather than battle for supremacy.

This is the perfect time to make THE CALL FOR PEACE:

May there be peace in the North!
May there be peace in the South!
May there be peace in the West!
May there be peace in the East!”

23- 25 September Venus in Scorpio opposes Uranus in Taurus and Mars in Libra trines Saturn in Aquarius. While this energy could be unsettling, the changes it creates are necessary in order to shift something that has degenerated to become stagnant and destructive. The way to remedy this situation is through co-operation and collaboration, through comparing and sharing of potential solutions, through working together for future goals.

It is time to review situations that have lost their lustre, become too one-dimensional, or simply run out of steam. They should be judged on their merits and also on any failure to deliver, making it possible to assess their true value and viability. It is important not to gloss over facts – whether positive or negative – which would benefit from full and frank discussion.

Once you have established the state of affairs as they currently stand, you have a better idea of your options and the choices open to you. You can then begin to take decisions, based on your careful consideration of the circumstances you are dealing with.

It is NOT the right time to sign important agreements unless you are absolutely sure you are putting your name to something which supports and favours you, and that you will not regret in future. Choices and decisions should be checked and re-checked until your mind is completely clear and convinced that this is the best option for you.

Week 29-30 September

The final two days of September see the Sun in Libra form a trine to Saturn in Aquarius, while Venus in Scorpio trines Neptune in Pisces and squares Jupiter in Aquarius. The helpful Sun/Saturn energy is favourable to serious discussions – especially those involving the formation of long-term plans and strategies. The configurations created by Venus encourage imaginative ideas and visions with a transformational quality which could offer hope for the future.
