Taurus Season began on 20 April and continues until the 21st of this month, when the Sun moves into Gemini. May is a solar blend of Earth and Air elements, which helps us to come up with ideas, schemes and designs that can be counted on to work in practical terms. But we must be both honest and realistic about the long-term sustainability of our plans. It is not sensible to build the future on an untested theory, however clever it looks on paper.
This month’s astrology suggests that we should be very careful not to rush headlong into the first opportunity that presents itself. We would be wise to keep our options open, bearing in mind that first impressions may illicit strong reactions but they cannot be relied on to reveal the full story, from start to finish. It is important not to be drawn into a polarised view of situations that are in a constant state of flux and therefore impossible to read. It would be better to retain a reflective state of mind as rapidly shifting circumstances continue to unfold.
The first week in May opens on an uncompromising note, following on from last month’s partial solar eclipse in Taurus. The Moon has moved to consolidate conjunctions with Uranus & the North Node in Taurus and a square aspect with Saturn in Aquarius. This suggests that we are struggling to accept the changes which must be made in the present if we are to create and sustain a peaceful and abundant planet for future generations.
Neptune in Pisces square Ceres in Gemini reminds us not to neglect the care of our children by squandering their security on the pointless pursuit of elusive desires and fantasies. Instead, we should be nurturing their fertile young minds and fostering their ability to create the fruitful dreams and visions that will reap rich harvests.
Do not be afraid to do things by yourself, or to take the initiative in your dealings with other people. You may feel more comfortable in the role of co-pilot, but it will do you good to sit in the driving seat for a while and take your own decisions about where to go and why.
Try not to fall into the trap of comparing your talents with anyone else’s. There is nothing like a dash of healthy competition to spice up your interactions with others but things can take a wrong turn if you start to sense that your rivals have what it takes to triumph while you do not.
Turn your attention to what you do best and focus on the enjoyment you get from expressing your natural gifts. The only person you need to win over is yourself. Once you have gained your own approval it becomes easier to attract the kind of attention you want from potential partners. They are drawn to your independent spirit and your ability to stay focussed on achieving the goals that motivate and excite you.
5 May Sun conjunct Uranus in Taurus. It may seem that some characters are more important than others thanks to their special qualities, confidence and charisma. But their power is drawn from the so-called common crowd which provides them with an audience. They would not be able to shine so bright without the group energy that supports and sustains them. Every single member of the human tribe is valuable in their own way and each brings their own unique gifts to the world.
The two big news items this week are Mercury turning Retrograde and Jupiter moving into Aries.
Things that have been thought, said or written may need to be revised due to mistakes or misunderstandings. It is possible that key details were edited out or glossed over in order to make the message easier to deliver. But these salient points are needed to fill gaps in the story and make it more comprehensible. They will also create connections that bring clarity to incomplete or misleading information.
Do not worry if you have to go back over stuff you assumed you had finished with. This is a chance to review ideas you may have put aside, perhaps because you could not make all the facts and figures fit. The missing links could now make themselves clear to you, so that you can pick up where you left off and continue with your train of thought.
This placement of the outward-bound planet favours the qualities of bravery and independence. Jupiter is encouraging you to take the initiative and to strike out on your own, even though you may doubt that your bold move will succeed. The most intrepid and insatiable of planets in our solar system does not really care about hitting targets or winning prizes, he is far more interested in gaining knowledge and experience.
Jupiter offers you the opportunity to expand your horizons and express your urge for adventure. It brings a sense that anything is possible, provided you are ready to give it a go. But this exhilarating influence can take you on a roller coaster ride to recklessness if you are not careful to consider the full implications of any risks involved. There is a point when self-sufficiency can be taken to extremes and become self-destructive.
The best way to use this forward-moving energy is by channelling it into some form of personal growth training, especially the kind that helps you to develop your potential as an instigator, a motivator, or a coach. This is the type of knowledge that can be self-taught, as it originates from your individual character, qualities and experiences.
Friday 13-14 May Sun conjunct North Node in Taurus. Mars in Pisces trine South Node in Scorpio. No matter how urgent the temptation is to fall back into harmful habits, especially those that drain your energy and weaken your resolve, it must be resisted. The way forward is to live a more simple, healthy life based on natural rhythms which provide stability and serenity. You do not need the kind of destructive daredevil experience which offers a short-term high followed by a downward slide into depression. If you crave a dose of drama it can be experienced vicariously by diving into the complex plot of a TV thriller series.
15 May Sun in Taurus squares Saturn in Aquarius and Venus conjuncts Chiron in Aries. If you are struggling to cope through these tough times your situation could be made worse by trying to go it alone. Doing it all by yourself, without the support of kindred spirits, could leave you lonely and isolated. It is important to seek friends and colleagues who can help you to stay positive. Their empathy will motivate you to stay calm and strong, no matter how heavy your burdens.
This placement of Ceres enhances her natural fertility, activating an urge to generate new life. The horoscope house or birth chart planet that Ceres is triggering for you will be the area you are most likely to feel as though you simply have to make something happen. The project you select must include a strong strain of personal involvement and hold the potential to fulfil you on an emotional level.
This is not about winning goals or achieving outcomes. It is more like answering a call of nature – I live therefore I create. You will be starting from scratch and nurturing your venture through a series of stages, from seed to fruition. The harvest you reap will depend on the quality of care you put into producing it.
You could have a sense that you have reached the end of a significant phase in your life, and that a mission has been accomplished or completed. Perhaps things have been very challenging or complicated and you have earned a well-deserved rest. It is now time to relax and replenish your energy. But you must be very careful not to allow your achievement to be sabotaged by destructive emotions such as envy, resentment or regret.
On no account should you feel that all your dreams are now broken or lost. This is simply not true. However cold or hard life seems to be, it cannot kill your faith in the future. Hope is both immortal and eternal – it will never die. Keep on creating glorious visions filled with joy, beauty and abundance in the firm belief that, when the time is right, they will be manifested in 3-D reality.
18-19 May Mars conjunct Neptune in Pisces. Jupiter in Aries square Ceres in Cancer. Sun in Taurus trine Pluto in Capricorn. Because the potential in these planetary patterns is almost fantastical, care must be taken not to be carried away on flights of fancy. While the options on offer are definitely exciting it is very important to consider all the costs and consequences involved in manifesting these high-flying hopes as earth-pane realities. The temptation will be to push the promise of what might be achieved without being totally truthful about long-term implications or outcomes which might favour some interests more than others.
The Sun’s energy becomes more mobile in the flexible Air element of Gemini. This placement supports your ability to communicate, network and make connections with people from your peer group, community and neighbourhood.
Everything you need is in your local area so long as you get linked in with the right contacts. But please do not make the mistake of assuming you have nothing left to learn. Take every chance you get to educate yourself, especially in ways that will enhance your mental acumen and manual dexterity.
The Sun makes direct contact with Mercury just before the mind planet moves back into Taurus, which confirms the importance and value of your ongoing interest in learning. Activities involving young people could be especially informative, as this age group can be adept at interpreting most subjects in fun, easy to understand terms. But you have to be quick if you want to keep up with them! Their unjaded intellects, unburdened by preconceived perceptions, tend to move pretty fast.
This is a time of retrospection, when you could be re-thinking some of your values and reinforcing your opinions about the basic standards and ethics that really matter to you. Your most resourceful ideas are based on your fundamental principles, giving them a genuine authenticity which cannot be questioned.
If you have always wanted to potter about with your tangible talents (particularly those which feature your voice, mind and hands) minus the pressure of having to make them pay, then this retrograde movement of Mercury can help you to express your abilities just for the pure enjoyment of doing so. Your rewards are rest, relaxation and replenishment.
24-25 May Venus conjunct Eris in Aries. Mercury in Taurus trine Pluto in Capricorn. If you are being forced to participate in a battle you would prefer not to fight because your opponent does not want to back down then you have no choice but to go into Warrior mode. So long as you remain inscrutable, unruffled and in control while your enemy continues to lose their cool, you will be the one who wins.
This vibrant, competitive energy must be directed towards a specific goal. It needs to be channelled effectively and requires well-defined targets. It is great for getting started but tends to run out of steam when actual results fall short of expectations. The strong influence of Mars in its own zodiac sign Aries is marvellous if you want to be motivated but not so good if you tend to get impatient or frustrated by disappointments and delays.
The nature of this placement is more like a sprint than a marathon. It provides a sharp sense of focus, urgency, excitement and speed that is short-lived yet highly effective. It brings an adrenaline rush which is designed to function for limited periods only. It should not be forced to fuel sustained activity or endure long-term effort.
The great thing about Mars in Aries is its ability to bounce back very quickly. Once it has regained motivation, the pace soon picks up and there is an almost immediate acceleration of momentum and speed which puts you right back in the race with every chance of winning.
27 May Venus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn. The phases in your life when it seems that you are standing alone against a hostile world have great value for this is when you earn your medals. You may not recognise or appreciate your own courage and strength in these testing times but the Cosmos observes and rewards your brave spirit.
Take time to celebrate, recognise and appreciate the talents and abilities you were born with. They can be used to enrich your life and make it more enjoyable and fulfilling. They can be depended upon to help you earn a living, and to provide for your material comfort and security.
One very valuable gift that you may be taking for granted is your capacity for putting people at their ease and helping them to feel comfortable, calm and relaxed. This aspect of your nature is enhanced and strengthened by Venus while her influence is reinforced by her rulership of laid-back and stable earth sign Taurus.
Taurus is the sign associated with material wealth, comfort and ease. Venus is the planet of pleasure. While financial security can bring you a certain amount of stability, it does not offer the true sense of abundance that enables you to feel completely fulfilled. This level of contentment comes from being entirely satisfied with your self, and at peace with whatever is going on in your life.
You are not reliant on the value of your worldly possessions because you feel fortunate to have been given them in the first place. You are totally in tune with who you are and what you have. You perceive yourself to be rich in every aspect of your earth-plane existence and you are grateful for the joy you gain from it.
29 May Mars conjunct Jupiter in Aries. This high octane combination needs to be reigned in by a whole battery of health and safety warnings as it ratchets up hot-headed recklessness to an alarming degree. But its wild exuberance can be channelled constructively, so long as you are careful to carry out risk assessments before you take action. The energy is encouraging to those of us who struggle with self-motivation or with being able to believe in our own potential.
Set your intentions to sow seeds for projects that might involve education, teaching or communicating with people who are curious and eager to learn. Your local community may prove to be a good source of support if you have a message to deliver or something to sell.
Try to keep things simple at this stage, otherwise you might start to scatter your energy in ways which leave you feeling exhausted and confused. You do not need to limit the number of interests you wish to explore, but your outcomes will be better if you concentrate on one subject at a time. Short-term attention is sufficient to ensure that the key facts are imprinted on your brain.
If you are already a seasoned multi-tasker this New Moon could confirm your natural ability to adapt, diversify and improvise at a moment’s notice. But bear in mind that some tasks require more commitment and careful monitoring than others. There are certain items which cannot be fully completed on a temporary basis.
